Dear Wessex Community,

It has been another busy and rewarding week at Wessex, and I would like to begin by extending a hearty welcome back to our Junior pupils who represented the school so admirably at last weekend’s ABSCH Junior Football and Volleyball Festival. Congratulations to all those who participated and represented Wessex with such enthusiasm and pride.

We now look forward to this weekend’s ABSCH Intermediate Football and Volleyball Festival. Unfortunately, some activities have been cancelled due to the inclement weather in the north, but I look forward to hearing positive reports from those competitions that are able to go ahead. I wish all our participating pupils the very best.

I was deeply moved by the respectful conduct of all our pupils last Thursday as we marked the first anniversary of Mr Martin’s passing. It was wonderful to see our pupils looking so smart in their full school uniform and, most importantly, showing such maturity and respect throughout the day. It was a privilege to welcome members of Mr Martin’s family and to share with them a moving and thoughtful assembly as we remembered his extraordinary contribution to Wessex and the legacy he left behind.

I would also like to congratulate our English Department, and particularly our pupils, on an outstanding English Week. Across the school, we saw wonderful presentations and tremendous effort towards developing confidence in speaking and listening in English. From the performance of plays to presentations exploring English history and culture, it was wonderful to see our pupils participating with such enthusiasm. Above all, learning was firmly at the forefront of our activities, accompanied by a wonderfully positive spirit.

This Tuesday, a group of our Senior 4 pupils travelled to St Margaret’s in Viña del Mar to participate in the ABSCH Debate in English. I know that they represented Wessex superbly, and I congratulate them for taking on the challenge of debating in English and representing their school with such confidence and commitment.

Next week, our attention turns to dieciocho, with another varied programme of activities planned across the school. I am sharing the programme once again so that families can see what is taking place and join us where appropriate.

As we approach our final week before the September break, I wish everyone a wonderful week ahead. There is still plenty to look forward to, and I hope we can finish this part of the school year with the same positive spirit, enthusiasm and commitment to learning that have been so evident across Wessex in recent weeks.
